Public school teacher, founder, Kids 4 Afghan Kids, Livonia, Michigan
Kids 4 Afghan Kids is a nonprofit that Khris Nedam and her students started in 1998 after a classroom speaker shared stories about the lives and needs of children in Afghanistan.
The students started raising money to build a school and also sent funds to a health clinic and an orphanage in Afghanistan. Nedam started her Quixtar business to help support the students' efforts; the business is now sustaining nearly half the project's operating costs.
For Nedam, the best aspect of owning her Quixtar business is that she can be a full-time teacher and raise her daughters, all while raising an income stream to support Kids 4 Afghan Kids.
